This keyboard is so small it doesn't have a spacebar... how the infernal region perform I jump?

The Raspberry Pi Pico and arbitrary keyboard
(Image deferred payment: Razz PI)

You've heard of a 60% keyboard, and flatbottom a 40% keyboard, just this PiPi Gherkin mechanical keyboard—hopped-up by the itty bitty Razz Pi Pico—is really pushing it. Being a full time author, any to a lesser degree the brimming 104 keys is a gainsay for me; this keyboard has just 30.

How anyone can use a 30% keyboard is just on the far side me.

Each key is full size, which at to the lowest degree gives it close to semblance of inferior, merely without a backspace, return key, or even a dedicated spacebar, this little thing would terrify even the most veteran pocket-sized-bod typist.

Hackaday writer, Donald Papp, urges us not to be disheartened past the sparsity of keys, though, saying: "IT has more functionality than information technology would look to at first sight." Rather than using a function key combo, the bottom row has "dual function tap/hold keys," meaning technically there is a spacebar—according to some helpful commenters information technology's mapped to the right pointer key for some reason.

Of course, the whole thing is fully re-mappable. With the use of 'stratum states,' changing the 'nonremittal layer' means it's possible to swop betwixt Dvorak, Colemak Beaver State Workman layouts quite promptly. And by programming mortal layer states you give the axe "overlay the substructure layer with other functions," reported to the github explainer at to the lowest degree.

There are certainly fewer useful keyboards out in that location, but I'm still not convinced I could get some bring off done with the PiPi Gherkin. Though as Papp notes, "For around applications, smaller is improve."

You go along telling yourself that, bud.

Katie Wickens

Jailer sports, Katie would rather watch Intel, AMD and Nvidia lead at it. She lav a great deal be found admiring AI advancements, sighing over semiconductors, or gawping at the stylish GPU upgrades. She's been obsessed with computers and graphics since she was small, and took Game Art and Design up to Masters level at uni. Her crave for laughable Raspberry Pi projects wish ne'er be sated, and she will stop at nothing to spread internet safety awareness—down with the hackers.
